5 Card Draw is one of the most popular variations of poker around and it is this type of poker that is generally shown in Hollywood movies and TV shows. The game is relatively simple to learn and this is way many novice poker players choose to play 5 Card Draw Poker.

A Quick Guide To 5 Card Draw Rules

The Objective
The main objective of the game would be to create the very best 5-card hand possible. If the player has the best hand after the second round of wagering then they would be declared the winner and rewarded with the pot.

Betting
Players may enjoy 5 Card Draw by playing the ante method or a blinds game. The ante method is considered to be the most popular and the game would begin with each player betting an ante before they receive their cards.

A blinds game will begin with the 2 players seated to the dealer’s left placing bets before the cards are dealt. The player seated to the immediate left of the dealer will bet the small blind and the player seated to the left of this player will bet the big blind. The big blind will generally be double the value of the small blind.

Once all players have received their initial 5-card hand, they may place their bets accordingly. Players may then choose to “stand pat” or they may opt to replace any amount of the cards in their hand with new cards dealt from the top of the deck. If you choose to “stand pat” then it means that would like to keep all the cards originally dealt to you.

When placing bets or drawing cards, the round always starts with the player seated to the dealer’s immediate left.

There is another final round of betting that then takes place after players have been dealt their new replacement cards. If there is more than one player still playing the game at this point then it is time for players to show their cards. The winner will take the pot and the dealer will then collect all cards on the table before passing the role on to the player seated to his/her immediate left.
